historical remodel of residential home.

Every once in awhile we get the opportunity to do something special in the building industry. This project was just that. Back in the early 1900's Sears Roebuck offered a "kit" home that you could order directly to your property. This kit include everything needed to assemble and construct a beautiful home with a lot of details. They were extremely popular and entire sub divisions began appearing as a result. as time went on, they became few and far between and outdated. As time went by the weather and elements took there toll on the exteriors and people began to update the outsides. right around this time, aluminum siding hit the market. It promised longevity and maintenance free living with a reasonable cost. People turned to this new product not realizing there would be a heavy design cost tie to it. After the home was "wrapped" with metal, it typically lost all of its character and unique appeal. This customer recognized the potential of bringing her home back to its original roots and how it would be a show piece if done correctly. When we were contacted about this endeavor, we were very excited. To do the non standard job is always a challenge and the results are typically high quality with a custom flair. We searched the internet for old photos and architectural drawings to establish a baseline for original design. We then took the design and worked on implementing modern building materials to accomplish the look but have a more sustainable product. We chose James hardie fiber cement as the main lap siding in deep . We chose Restoration Millwork as the trim details in cellular pvc. And our final wood trim details we went with natural Brazilian ipa, which is naturally weather and insect resistant. The final result was a stunning, well thought out, residential home that stands the test of time. We believe we were able to carry the original design far enough to do the original architects thoughts justice. We hope to have more opportunities in the future put the mental work in to create such unique projects!!
